Hello,
i am new to the whole midi thing and was wondering what i need to get started recording midi with my echo mia card (no midi inputs) and cubase sx2.01. can i record midi with virtual instruments without having any midi inputs? if not, can i get a midi controller with a usb input and record with only this set up? If so, how does this usb set up work? Sorry for all of the basic questions, but i have alwalys recorded audio up until now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've been using an Echo Mia (standard) with a Midiman MidisportUSB 2x2 for a couple of years now..... I didn't want my midi port to be tied to a particular soundcard anyway.

It's a no-brainer plug-and-play setup and has cause me no problems with all my music software from CubaseSE to N-Track and Fruitloops. VSTi's are also no problem, I use Kompakt, BismarkBS-16, sfz and many others... zero problems.

They all work the same way: you install the midi drivers for whatever device you purchase and point your sequencer software at those ports.

Get a beginner book on midi and go for it....

You can also buy a cheap USB to Midi convertor like the Maudio UNO for around $30, or Roland's models for around $45.
