I have a G4-500Mhz - 10 & 20 gig Hardrives -and 320 Meg RAM. I am using (2)Motu 1224 and Digital Performer. I dont know why it kept on crashing (freeze) seveveral time a night. I though i have plenty of memory and diskspace (19 gig available) for it. Can someone tell me what might be the problems?

Have you made sure you're not running any unneccessary extentions, such as those for printing, networking and the like?

Yes, I had. I have nothing on this computer other than the operating system (OS-9.x) Free Midi, and Digital Performer 2.7. No LAN or anything like that.

Does it crash only when using DP? If so, you might try trashing the FreeMidi and DP prefs and rebooting.
Also - try rebuilding your desktop and zapping your PRAM as well...

Hi:
Thankz for your helps .... I works fine when i used only the MIDI part of DP ... and begin to crash when i used the digital audio
of the software. I think the problem might be my RAM ... because there was a few times, when i boot the machine up it has this wierd message saying: "the internal memory testing has found some errors ... please contact a service technician.... ". Iguess i need some kind of software that will test the internal memory. Do u know of any? Maybe, i have a bad memory module or something like that.
Thankz

That sounds like your problem - try exchanging the Ram module and see if that doesn't clear it up. I see no other reason why it should be crashing like that...

If you get Techtools Pro it will test every nook and cranny of your system, including writing 1's and 0's to every memory address in your mac... I love it! good luck.

Go to basic - audio hardware set up. make sure you have the latest 324 driver. Where it says driver make sure you selected the 324 not the sound manager. I'm assuming yours is not a cracked version.

If you're using OS 9.1 it's not stable go back to 9.0.4 that might solve your problem. Also make sure you're not using any third party plug-ins. Also I suggest taking out the RAM that didn't come with the original system and see if it still crashes. Also before running the program click once on the DP icon then go to system information - memory and double the numbers. If after all these the problem still exists. Then it's one or both 1224 have problems on them. I'm assuming that you're not running more then 24 tracks simultaneously.

Oh yeah I didn't see that you had RAM problems when booting up the machine. I think that is your definite problem.
