View Full Version : Sound card to Receiver--Listening only

I want to play my .mp3 music library (on Musicmatch Jukebox) from my PC though a Denon AVR-1905. The AVR-1905 is connected to 2 POLK LSi9 and 2 Polk LSi7 speakers in my listening room. It is also connected to a whole house system via an AudioSource AMP Three amplifier connected to a Russound Pro-6 speaker selector. (BA ceiling speakers.)

I think I want to use the AVR-1905 to produce the 4 way surround from stereo .mp3s rather than a sound card. Does that make any sense?

What kind of sound card should I use in my PC? What kind of connector to the Denon? (It accepts optical input.) I am not very price conscious (within reason <g>) and I want the best sound the amp and speakers will produce.

Any help would be welcome.

I am just curious, are the MP3's surround sound?
I am perhaps a bit late on the latest mp3 technologies.
Have you looked at Soundblaster cards?, I think the audiology series supports surround sound, and is pretty user friendly regarding OP systems, and compatability for uses such as yors.
Inexpensive card, easy learning curve. Just a thought.
Be good

Boppers,

Thanks for the reply. The MP3s are stereo.

I think I would rather have the AVR-1905 split the signal to my 4 speakers. It seems to me that I would be best off to send a digital stereo signal from my PC to the receiver which would then convert to analog, add effects, and load the speakers (not necessarily in that order).

The Audiology 2 has optical out. But I fear that signal is already converted to 5.1 or some such surround format. Am I not better off to have the AVR-1905 do the surround effects?

For the most part I have no idea what I am talking about, however. Any help is much appreciated.
