Hi everyone , I was planning on getting a 2496 for the moment obviously im new to producing and recording music and will probably move up to a better sound card in the future. I'd like to get some advice if this is the right card for me. Basically i'll be running software and some hardware such as

Turntable
Microphone
Mini Disc
Midi Controller
Speakers or Monitors

Obviously I will not use these all at the same time but just for sampling purposes. Is this card going to let me plug in these objects? I've heard that I would need a mixer for the turntable's ground wire and also to plug in the microphone. Is there any other way to do it without getting a mixer? can't it be done with a basic home stereo receiver which then connects to the soundcard?
My budget is tight so if its not possible to do these things without a mixer what kind do you think I would need?

You will need a mixer. But even a used
Behringer will be super cheap.
The 2496 will be fine, as long as you're
not using the minidisc digital fiberoptic
connection. If you needed that, I would
look at the Emu 0404.

Make sure the mixer has a phono input for your T/table , they dont work on normal line level inputs i run similar gear in thru a vestax dj mixer although i do have a mic pre-amp as dj mixers dont tend to have mic pre-amps that are any good
also what are you running your speakers off? if its a home stereo amp u maybe able to use that instead a mixer as long as it has the right inputs ie phono, cd, aux ect

I think i'll get a mixer dont know which one though any suggestions? i have an old vintage technics receiver which has only aux, phono , am , fm. I haven't got any speakers yet but I will probably be using some computer speakers, dont have the cash for the monitors just yet.

Check out ebay for a used Behringer MX802A ($35-45 is a good price).

Soundcraft Compact 4

excellent little mixer with all the options you need... and a turntable input... which is rare on mixers with mic pres and such. And it's not expensive.
