I have been trying fruitlessly to get my MIDI into Cubase. Border of insanity. Here is what I got and can someone suggest what the h*ll I am doing wrong.

HARDWARE
Mac G4 ,450mhz, 512RAM
Midiman Audiophile 2496
Alesis QS 8

SOFTWARE
Cubase 5
Delta Panel 1.2.5B1 (for the AP 2496)
OMS 2.3.7 (for the MIDI interface)

I have tried tweeking settings on the QS 8, the Delta Panel, OMS, and Cubase to get everyone to talk to each other, but NO DICE!. OMS detects IAC Driver, Studio Patches Pgm Chg, and Quicktime Music, I cannot seem to succesfully link it to my Alesis. Similarly, when I try to Select the IAC driver in Cubase, no sound occurs. I can see that something is happening in the MIDI level, but can hear any MIDI instruments unless I set it to a VST Instrument.

How do I get MIDI in from my Alesis and where is my problem originating? The soundcard, the OMS settings, or cubase?

Any suggestions are very welcome

Hi

Is that all that OMS is detecting? It needs to detect your midi interface as well. And the Alesis. then you drag the Alesis next to the interface in the list and set up a two way communication. Then go to Test Studio and click on the Alesis and you should hear a female voice say "Midi received". that is if you have your sound manager turned up.

If OMS does not have the midi interface in the list, then your prefs are bad or the driver for that interface are not the in System folder/OMS folder. Check to see that the driver for your interface is indeed in that folder. While you are in there, check to see if your particular Alesis is listed in the folder that has all the types and models of gear.

If you don't see your interface driver, then reinstall it, trash the OMS prefs just to be safe, and run OMS again. It should detect the interface then. try this first and see what happens.

I have tried what you suggested, but still have had no luck whatsoever. I reinstalled OMS 2.3.8., but my type of keyboard, refuses to show up in the system folder.

In OMS, I can add a new device, set it up with Alesis Qs8 properties, but it doesnt seem to do anything (ie, still not connected).

I can't figure out if I have settings set on my keyboard either. Heard something about Local Off, but I tried setting that in what the manual said was the equivelent, but still no go.

Any other suggestions? I'm desperate.

Hi,

well, I hate to sound so basic, but have you tried swapping the midi cables out? If you have a bad connection thru a midi cable, I don't think that OMS will detect your device. It's worth a shot it you don't know for sure. Also, do you have both midi in and out from the keyboard connected? For some reason, I think that OMS will not auto detect if you don't have a full midi loop.

I am trying to think of anything that might be overlooked.

Let us know,

Hey, I've had the same problem - no MIDI into Cubase - OMS or not. I took the easy way out and simply stopped using Cubase but that's just a band-aid, not the real solution. If anyone knows what's up here I, too would appreciate the answer.
