Will the MBox and the included Protools LE software work with a new PC with Windows XP? And if it does, do I still need a better soundcard than Dell offers to connect monitors and stuff?
P.S. I don't have the computer yet, so I'm looking for the cheapest way to get a soundcard, monitors, and software. The MBox bundle sounds pretty good because it offers the software and the plug-ins with it.
Please give me any suggestions.

I'm pretty sure that ptle will work under xp.....however, you really do need to upgrade to a good sound card if you can....dell's onboard sound sucks! Just bought a new dell myself and I did not spend a whole lot of time with the onboard sound before it became obvious that it's a pile of crap. Do yourself a favor and invest in something good.

well, the mbox IS a soundcard, so i'm not quite sure why you'd be worrying about the onbaord soundchip anyway. However, personally, I used to have an MBox, but I got rid of it because a) I don't like protools and b) the driver compatability with other applications leaves a lot to be desired. If you like protools and need an all in one solution, and plan on using your computer mainly for audio work, it could be a good choice for you.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!
I am having issues w/ Cubase SX V2 & a Audigy ZS PRO. The issue is with the association of inserting effects "live" on the sound I am monitoring ( Exp MIC 1) while hearing the effect live that you’ve just inserted. I have tried several different methods. I have sent the AUDIO track - MIC to an FX Channel, then inserted the Reverb in the FX Channel with no luck. I've tried inserting the reverb effect right on the Audio track - MIC when monitoring but it’s always only plays dry part of the mix being heard. The meter on the Reverb effects don’t even show an indication it’s receiving any signal ( except when I apply the insert to the actual Input buss for the MIC, but no sound. I have no issues applying effects after recording. I know this function should works and it’s not hardware related because when using the Bundled Steinberg Cubasis VST 4 that came with the card. I can monitor a input and hear it with no issues, I simply can’t heaer the inserted effect while monitoring. Any ideas?
PS. I’ve tried reinstalling both the sound card drivers and the newer ASIO drive from Creative. I have also tried removing and reinstalling Cubase but no luck!

I thought that the mbox was just an interface.....sorry for my ignorance on that part, no need to worry about onboard sound.
On the other hand.....I do like protools, and a few other programs but, thats all the freewill thing.....make your own choices based on experience and preference.

KeyMix - you need to start a new thread rather than hijack this one.
Also, assuming you have gone and spent good money on SX2 it doesn;t make much sense to cripple it by using an Audigy.
However this is the place to discuss this.
Yup jpw23, the MBox is an interface/external sound "card", connects using USB (ugh!). I sold mine and for the same money bought an M-Audio firewire 410. I'm much happier now :)
