Can anyone recommend a good deal on Pricewatch, for a computer that will mainly be for surfing the net in search of audio files and for music education software and some minor audio recording using freeware ?
I prefer to stay within AMD options, maybe athlon 2000 or higher and with 512 memory. I would like to spend less than $500 then later add a soundcard interface.
Thank you

get your core computer guts from unitedmicro.com (they assemble it at no charge) then buy your drives and ram from newegg.com
best combo ever...

Okay...I think it's going to be United Micro for me.
They have alot on Pricewatch.com
Searched under that website in the PC Windows option, for A78nX deluxe (which I think is the A78nX that has firewire) and came up with alot of choices there. Using the configurator on unitedmicro.com it amounts to higher prices...but I wonder if I would do okay with an already configured computer or just select all their part myself.
The big deal is noise concerns. Also, I am going for an AMD 2500 or higher, so it has the 333 Front side bus.
I'm still not totally certain what soundcard I will use...but I need a computer now anyway...so I'm going to buy one that I can use for the family, and also play with for music stuff - recording and sequencing and personal music education.
Any other recommendations anybody ?

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and it has been a good platform for DAW. The firewire is a bonus, but you can always purchasea firewire card on eBay for dirt cheap. The SATA controllers are good if y ou want the newer SATA disk, but personally performance is nmot much of an issue.
I use a MOTU 828 MKII into my system and has been a great with Cubase SX and XP pro. I have some minor hum periodically though and I can't seem to narrow down the source. it comes every now and then, but I am not sure if it is the mobo. For all other general applciations, the on board NVIDIA sound is fantastic! 6 Channel with digital decoding AND encoding. Use the digital out into a 5.1 surround amplifier and your cooking.
If you have a use for dual LAN interfaces, the Deluxe has that too...

okay, this week, if you had $600 to spend on a computer...to which you would later want to add your external soundcard and do some recording in home studio...using software like Sonar...wanting to combine both midi and audio tracks....also wanting to do some personal music education work (like developing your piano playing).... what would you buy from Pricewatch.com. (A7N8X is the motherboard of choice, and you want barton core as a minimum).
