Not a whiz at this so...
My HD is SATA so no problems there, it's on the primary SATA plug.
I'm fumbling with the DVD-ROM and the CD-RW. I read for best performance, they should not be on the same cable or something.
Mastr or Slave?
Which one?
On the Primary IDE or the Secondary IDE? Or one in each?
In essence, how do I connect them for the fastest way of making a copy of my CD's?
Thanks in advance.

the whole deal with them being on a seperate cable is irrelivant with your burners and such.. unless you are copying something form your dvd rom while you are burning... dont worry about it, just leave them on the same cable

Thanks!
Basically just want to make copies using the "exact copy" function on the software; cd to cd-rw at once.
Can a SATA drive by my only drive in the computer? Got confused with all the Raid stuff on the mobo's manual.
I'll work on this tomorrow..
Thanks again!
Yeah, I boot from SATA and have no ATA drives in my pc. In my case ASUS P4P800 you need to have the SATA raid on but I do not have the pc configured for raid if that makes sense. It works great and I am happy. My burner is on the primary ATA in master mode.

Thanks,
I tried using the SATA drive as my only HD, and XP install told me there was no Hard Drive detected!?!, even thou I saw it in the booting up screen. No prob, I'll keep the SATA for myself as the audio(2nd HD) in DAW. Maybe it was because it wasn't formatted? Dunno, but who cares, I'll continue this next week.
Still confused by the Raid stuff. I'm certain I don't want it, just want to use it as a regular 2nd drive.

Mab - I've just got a new P4P800 and SATA drive, could you tell me more about how to set it up? It shows up as ATA-5. Do I need to press F6 on XP install to make the drive work as SATA? Or now that it was installed without that, can I just use the MB's RAID configuration? As you can see, I'm confused...

I was looking over your thread at http://www.audioforums.com/forums/Forum1/HTML/004355.html and wanted to let you know that you probably had the SATA HD hooked up correctly, you just didn’t install the raid drivers for the SATA connectors. Thus meaning Windows could not find the SATA ports and thus your hard drive itself because the drivers where not installed for it to detect it.
Here is what you have to do when installing the OS on a system like this. When XP boots from the CD and first starts its installing procedure, it says at the bottom of the screen “F6 to install SCSI cards” or something to that affect. The SATA chipset is not recognized by XP and thus the drivers for it need to be installed the same way a SCSI card is. It is basically the same thing. You need to hit “F6” on the keyboard for you to be able to install the SCSI controller card, or SATA controller card, that the hard drive is on. Now it would appear that the installation ignored you and continue to do it own thing, but the first interactive screen you get to will ask you to hit “S” to install support for a SCSI card. Hit S on the keyboard. It will ask you for a floppy disk that contains the drivers for the card you wish to install.
I hope you have another computer up and going, you’ll need to go to your other computer, pop in the CD for the motherboard, and copy over the drivers for the RAID card. It actually should have a “make disk” program in there that will do this for you automatically. Take that disk pop it in the PC your doing the install in and choose the correct driver. That’s it. You’re done.
