I can't get to work one of my two HDD.
Everything was fine yesterday,no clicking or other nasty sounds.
It seems like there is no power coming in to the HDD.
I checked all the cables, attached another HDD and everything was fine.
I still have a warranty but I just want to make sure its dead for sure.
I have some data what I would like to retrieve but I heard data recovery from the failed HDD is very expensive.
Any input??
Thanks

Use restorer 2000, not too expensive, works great; http://www.bitmart.net/r2k.shtml
Try the demo first; if it works you can go and buy it.
I have succesfully regained GIGs of data with this app.

Funny story, I just had a Maxtor 160gb ATA 133 8mb buffer 7200rpm drive go bad on me, and I missed the warranty by ONE FREAKIN' DAY!!!! Okay, not so funny story.

Soundcracker... without trying to hijack the thread - loving the Sonata!! I have the acoustic padding added also, which helps things out a bit too. It also goes some way toward reinforcing the front door!! If you haven't already tried it, maybe give it a whirl, although it would involve a PC rebuild to get it all in. Great PSU, no doubt about it. My machine is SILENT on power up. After maybe an hour or so of heavy processing, a fan kicks in which still renders the machine quiter than any other I have worked with, so I'm a pretty happy chappy :)
OK, back to talking about dead hard drives. Have you lost VITAL data? I had a 100gb drive die on me a while back that had loads of valuable stuff on it, but nothing vital. I can be fairly philosophical about these things sometimes. I tried to recover it, didn't really happen, so I let it go. Felt weirdly liberated by the experience - just reminded me that it's only data after all, and not a limb, for example. Still, if it had been lots of priceless work, I'm sure my attitude would be different.
Not a lot of help, but my consolations anyway :)

Thank you guys for your inputs.
Yeah I'll let it go,probably. There is no power coming in to the HDD so any software based utility won't help.
Actually I have two HDD failed after my dear huricane Charlie stopped by while I was working.
Came next day, powered up,first I heard clicking in my IBM HDD,dead and few days later my second Western Digital 120GB HDD didn't have any power.Dead??probably, without any signs any warning.
It sucks,but my bad.
Called the company how much can be for data recovery,750$,thanks but no.
But I'm mad that after the huricane WD still worked without problem.
Maybe is not mechanical failure of the drive.\
Well,thanks again for the help.
