Lost File

I saved a file as a *.pcm and when I went to bring it back up it looked like a heart monitor. What did I do to lose the complete song file as I saved it?

Just a guess, but should you try converting it to .wav format? Or did it come back zoomed-in to a section of the song? Does it play? Are you sure it's lost?
