I've been working alot with multirecording. But i've always experienced that my mixes are much lower in volume than, let's say a "professional" mixed sound. I'm aware of the fact that these pro-mixes contains really high-end equipment.
My last mix contained about 20-30 tracks. When I was finished with the overall, I mixed it down, and import it into cubase again, then I do normalising and a bit EQ if needed. And then I put the output to about 3-4+ dB.

Do I need to run it trough a compressor maybe?
I have a mackie dsp card(UAD-1) Any good compressors recomended, maybe with that card?
Any alternative route I should be using,
to get that loud sounding mix?

BTW:
Thanx for a GREAT!! Forum! :)

If you want to leave the dynamics intact (depending on style of music), you need a peak limiter (compressor with infinite ratio and fast attack and release). Most audio mixes contain a a certain number of transients. These are small peaks (< 3ms) and not audible when they're single. When reducing those transients, you could win another 4 dB or so, depending on the music style, etc.

Cubase has a plugin called "Peak Master", this is a peak limiter. But be aware that you disturb the dynamics audible when limiting very drastically. I'm not sure, but I think that the "pro-mixers/mastering-engineers" offer some dynamics for loudness very often.
