View Full Version : P4P800 video ok for a DAW.
Is there a good reason from a performance perspective not to use the onboard video on the P4P800 deluxe for DAW usage? This particular one I'm putting together will not be a dual monitor system so that isn't an issue.

Should work OK... but:
1 - Shared memory for video reduces the available RAM for applications. That shouldn't hurt you too bad provided you've got plenty of RAM.
2 - Poor output bandwidth results in fuzzy text at high resolutions and refresh rates. I've never seen that particular board's output but others I've seen get pretty fuzzy above 1024x768 resolutions with decent refresh rates.

40$ gets you a decent video card of you are not happy with the on-board VGA.

There'll be tons of RAM, and I'm not so concerned about a less than razor-sharp image. I just wanted to make sure there isn't some issue i don't know about where the onboard video interferes with the audio stream or whathaveyou...

I kinda agree with wogg.
I also have thoughts that if the on-board video works, leave it be, as it should be pretty much matched with the board, and less little glitches down the road....an assumption on my part alone
