the box says its compatible with Macs but i was wondering if its possible to install the audiophile 2496 into an ibook? has anyone here done this?

it's pci - so no. you'd need the usb external version

ok so i have the audiophile 2496 and the audio buddy preamp - does this external version make these 2 things unneccesary?

i think you'll still be ok using the preamp. but the pci 2496 won't be needed.

No. There are no available PCI slots on an eMac.

Do you have any sugestions for a good soundcard that will work with a mac? im lookin at $300 or under. ive researched some and all the reviews i read are confusing me and makin me nervous to buy. for each product people say they hate it and want to burn it or people worship it and its perfect. im just really confused and dont want to waste my time/money with somethin that wont work.

I wish I could recommend you one based on experience.
However, I think it may depend on which Mac and what software as to how well it will "work". Nail that down and someone might be able to give you the best answer.
Having said all that, I see that the MAudio Firewire Audiophile has been reduced. For instance, here:

and about what ill be using:
im plannin on gettin an emac g4 1.2ghz 512 mb ram and i want to use metro or anything similar to or better than metro that i can find
