I know fruit loops is mainly for club music and all, but I've just finished mixing a whole demo CD with it. And its Punk Rock music to boot.

Am I the only one that abuses fruity loops so badly?

I use an external realtime CDR to record Guitar, Bass, and vocal tracks, rip them into WAV samples on my PC, cut 'em up and import them into FP, let fruity loops do the drumming for me (real drumkit samples), mix it together, throw in some effects, EQ, export as an MP3 and then use Audacity to perform some finishing touches (fade outs, compression, etc.).

I feel pretty alone doing it this way. Everyone else uses completely different methods to record their demos. However, mine turned out pretty damn good!

Is this wierd?

Not weird at all. There's a million ways to get the job done and each one adds to the music's individuality.

Yeah... what Easto said. I've done similar things with Fruity. No rules, only guidelines... Its just a tool.

But....
export as an MP3 and then use Audacity to perform some finishing touches (fade outs, compression, etc.).

You are killing your sound by converting to .mp3 and then performing more processing on it. Keep your files in .wav format all the way from recording to CD burning. Only make .mp3 copies of files for sharing on-line.

BTW, you got a link so we can hear it?

I know a couple of people who did their entire albums on Fruity (and one before it moved up to Studio version).

It can definitely be done.

Awesome. So I'm not alone in mixing this way. However, I've noticed that my compression is making things a bit worse.

Thanks BTW for telling me about the WAV vs MP3 proccessing method. I didn't know I would lose quality that way.

When I export my music in this method, it seems that any external player that has it's own compression makes the music sound pretty lame. All 'kick drum' hits or louder parts of the songs are faded badly, making the music sound sketchy. What can I do to correct this?

I am confused now, what compression are you talking about exactly?

If its about wav or mp3 then certainly stick with wav files

if its about compression as an fx then it may be the difference between your genuine and external players.
Possible that you have made your genuine system sound 'fat' even when the song isn't... maybe you need to check a lot on this... certainly check on many other systems to get a clue here, I guess.
Or are you talking about other Music hardware, like other studios???

I've done the majority of my recent work in FL Studio 4.5.1... I was one of those people that look down on Fruity Loops until this version, with generators such as Sytrus and Slayer now making an appearance, combined with a simple but flexible interface makes FL quite a weapon these days.
