Hey everyone,
I am working on putting together a recording set up that will be capable of recording live drums and all other instruments. Thus, I realize I'll want at least 8 inputs. I have been searching and talking with some of my friends with studios and they seem split as to whether I should run with Digidesign's protool set up with the desktop controller and their rackmount digi 002, or the Aardvark pro Q10 with the Cubase platform. My main concern is the converters. Which are better? I will be recording with primarily a Neumann U87, an AT4033, Sm57's and 58's, and several other standards. The $ going into the microphones, makes me want to get the best converters possible. Can anyone help? Other suggestions outside of the protools vs. cubase duel are more than welcome. I am working on a PC. Thanks in advance,
Dave

I have a Q10, and the converters are simply great, the sound is really really clean. I dont use any dehiss, the quality is superb.

Q10 is nice, but digidesign is simply higher quality.

Not to start a protools vs cubase thread, but ehm... protools is notoriously dodgy on PC, it's perfect on mac (no don't want to start pc vs mac thread either). But to me... if you're on PC go for cubase, if you're on mac go for protools (or logic). Whatever you prefer. And in the end... protools has more for audio and cubase more for midi, though they're damn close nowadays and both good stuff.

Have you looked at MOTU (mark of the unicorn) yet? If I wanted pure convertor quality I'd go for them... costly though.

Thanks for the help. I am going to look into the MOTU, and if it is too pricy looks like i'll be running with Aardvark and Cubase.
Cheers.
