ON TWO ISSUES: UNRELATED DIRECTLY BUT BOTH QUITE RELEVANT..........
I am looking at the components, all of them ALMOST.. to my project which is my very first PC build....Going at sort of a snails-pace, but not because I ain't VERY anxious to finish, just very determined to not F#ck up too badly, especially in my choice of important components, and the two remaining items I have yet to acquire, are:
thermal paste for that all IMPORTANT(or, so I understand) ingredient which is actually reminescent of snot or other bodily extract/fluid, but I don't have any thermal paste to put in the contact surface where my processor meets the cooler apparatus, or whatever it is that you do with this stuff they call "THERMAL PASTE?"***********ANYWAY, WHATS THE BEST? thermal paste or whatever the correct term is, to use?(any "extra"pc/DAW building advice is appreciated)
ALSO:
I use a Tascam US224 with my current desktop/DAW with HP Pavilion pc, and the easily transportability, appeals,(although I never used it as such, so far, since my laptop has no mods done to it, making it a feasible "GO" DAW, but I still like that I might conceivably take with me,like on a trip, some resemblance of a DAW/mobile style rig, also I am aware of firewire and usb2.0's being "way faster", and although my usb1.0 conrolsurface/IOinterface/soundcardsolution,has never made me feel it was ever the weakest or slowest link, I am interested in choosing my best choice of a solution for this newest pc/DAW set.
And I ask for readers own personal taste regarding choosing a sound card solution to best suit or match this DAW which I am about to assemble.
The fact that things are as good as they are, also is a potentially very confusing issue, but not if i make myself clear enough. What I mean is, when I get a new "mate" to carry on as my Tascam has for my current pc, an upgraded, but similarly equitable function, for the new pc i am building.
The us224 is a sound card, and
it is a midi interface,and
it is an analog/digital I/O interface,and
it is usb powered
For my new one, i hope to utilize firewire or usb2.0, and again, i only believe in the concept that there is a vast difference, but yet cannot distinguish any difference,most likely because so far my source DAW has only been operating in
either 16 or 24 bit mode...
I expect to invest in 96 bit capable gear in this unit , but I am the only person who will constantly need input access, with only occasional need for input for 2... that likely being the most I'll ever need in the near to immediate future, so i can save some, on inputs, but I would like to have upgrade-ability, if possible...
If there are any readers who are with me still, you should go ahead and share with me your thoughts, IF YOU PLEASE...

1.WHATS THE BEST THERMAL PASTE? should it be available like, at office depot, or circuit city
or should I order some?
2. WHATS THE BEST VALUE- SOUNDCARD/MIDIinterface/IOinterface
for ONE PERSON, maybe occasionally two or three(singers) and most likely preferably at "96" sample rate?
