I´ve heard that if I get a Delta 44 soundcard, I won´t be able to play Cds (no cd connection) or run other sound-dependent programs (i.e. games) since it just works for recording.
is that so?
does anyone know of a card in pretty much the same price range ($200/230) with a breakout box which could probably outdo the Delta? or is it the best choice for the price?

I have a Delta 1010 and have absolutely no problem playing CDs.
The card does not have any kind of soundfont type engine but will play back any kind of prerecorded audio files.

Audio is routed thru the motherboard in lieu of a cable from the CD player. Mine was automatic. I don't think you have to do anything special.

Maybe it is different with the Delta 44

In Windows 2000 / XP:

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio tab

Set the default device to the appropriate Delta card outputs.

Windows will play all audio through the card, system sounds, media player, games...

And the Delta 44 and 1010 use the exact same driver and will behave the same, just with a different number of I/O.
