Dudes:
I have the Audiophile 2496 which comes with the Delta apps and I'm using Cakewalk Sonar - doesn't Sonar have everything I need, can I uninstall the Delta apps?
Thanks - rev

All you need are the drivers for the card. Everything else is usually advertising.

Dude:
Are you sure? This is what I got from m-audio support:
You do need these. The reason you may have this ! is due to the driver 5.10.00.29 that you are using as there may be issues with this drivers and your particular setup. You should download and install the latest .36 driver from our site at http://www.m-audio.com/.
They went on to give me installation instructions.

You need the drivers, that's all.
The .36 package from the website installs the drivers and a small mixer / controller applet that is definately necessary. M-Audio doesn't add any bloatware, hell the download's under a meg.
In contrast, Creative's drivers run a good 10MB or more and install a bunch of crap that isn't necessary at all.
Uninstall what you have, install the .36 package from the M-Audio website listed, and make some music.

Dude:
Every time I uninstall using the uninstalldelta.exe, I get a ! mark against the card.
When I install it I get a happy card and a ! against the apps, what's the deal?
Am I uninstalling the driver along with the apps when I do that?
How do I get rid of just the apps?
rev
Are you talking about the yellow ! warning in device mangager?
My Delta 1010 shows only one entry in device manager, "M-Audio Delta 1010". I would have assumed your Audiophile card (which uses the same drivers) sould have shown only a "M-Audio Audiophile 2496" device in the manager, nothing else.
Software applications are not shown in device manager so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. So the question is, what are these apps your talking about? Specifically what does it say and where?

Dude:
I have two entries under Sound Game Controllers:
Audiophile 2496
! and Delta
I'm not at that machine so I can't say what the exact wording is, if I use the deltauninstaller.exe, I get this:
! Audiophile 2496
and the other entry vanishes. reinstall and this comes back:
Audiophile 2496
! and Delta

Perhaps you should:
run deltauninstaller
remove the other questionable device from the manager manually
re-boot
let Windows detect the hardware
Point it to the directory you unzipped the .36 file
let windows install the drivers
re-boot again
And all will be well?
Another note: When I upgraded from .29 to .36 (just a couple of days ago in fact) I ran the deltauninstaller from the .36 package prior to re-booting.
It seems you may have an exceptional problem though, sometimes PC hardware is just wierd like that. So if that doesn't work, I'm stumped and you should call M-Audio and yell at them.

Dude:
That was my installation / uninstallation method.
uninstall
reboot
let Windows detect the hardware
Point it to the directory you unzipped the .36 file
let windows install the drivers
re-boot again
I'm going to get the low down from those low down @#$% at M-audio and post it here.

You didn't mention step 2 - manually removing the other 'hardware' that device manager was warning about.
Other than that, I'm spent.
Post what M-Audio has to say.

Dude:
I'll post what m-audio say - they take about 24 hrs usually but I've already started this thread with them, so maybe less.
I had no troubles at all on a different machine the apps and the card were happy. I never used the apps or really knew what they were for because Sonar 3 appears to provide the means to set all the options offered in the apps.
I believe they're not necessary but I can't get rid of them without incurring a ! against the card. Tonight I'm going to test the card while the apps have ! against them. If it works I may just ignore the problem.

Just curious, why don't you leave what ever the installer installs ?
Is it a question of lack of hard drive space ?
Over the years I've learned to just leave it alone, that is, what ever the installer installs leave it be.
Just curious why you want to remove what ever it is you want to remove.

>Just curious, why don't you leave what ever the installer installs?
Because it has a ! against it. If you leave unhappy things here and there just because you can, you invite instability and conflicts, etc.
It's cleaner, leaner and tidier to remove them if I don't need them, especially if they're taking resources that might cause a conflict with something else.
I still don't know what the Delta apps are doing in the hardware list and I haven't heard back from M-Audio yet.

Dudes:
Here's what m-audio had to say - I followed it to the letter and it worked. There are no Delta apps under Device Manager and the card is happy. Problem solved - rev

Hi,
Follow the instructions below to Manually uninstall/reinstall the drivers.
This will verify a clean installation.
Make sure you have Service Pack 1 for Windows XP. Please use the following instructions for a clean installation.
1.Download the latest driver AND the Delta Uninstaller from our web site to the Desktop.
2.Extract the driver to a new or newly formatted floppy disk(just click on the driver icon and click Finish; it will automatically extract to the floppy).
3.Run the Delta Uninstaller and reboot the PC OR for a manual uninstall remove any appearance of the Delta from Device Manager(it's under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers). Set up your system to "Show All Files"(Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder Options-View), and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known files types". Hit Apply and OK.
Under More advanced options, check the boxes labelled
Search Subfolders
Search System Folders
Search Hidden files
Go to Start-Search-Files or Folders and search for
*delta*.*
delteasi.dll
oem*.inf
Delete all files that are found for the Delta search(make sure that you don't delete anything unrelated to the Delta. For specific file names you can browse your installation CD or floppy) and all files for the other searches. For oem*.*, open each file. If it makes any reference to the Delta, delete it. Reboot the PC.
4.Windows should detect new hardware. When you come to the screen that asks you where you want Windows to search for the new driver, direct the search to the floppy, and follow the Add New Hardware Wizard through to the end. Your driver should now be installed!
Let us know if you're still having trouble.
take care,
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
