would a s/pdif port be useful for recording from a synthesiser straight to the PC?

ok, i´ve got a korg x5d synth, and it contains the two stereo out ports, the midi ones and an additional (supposedly for computer connection) called "to host" which I think looks like the type of port for either mouse or keyboard for the computer.

what kind of cable would I have to use if I wanted to record AUDIO (not midi!!) to the computer?

The specs for that machines say it has a Left/Right output and these are probably 1/4 inch outs. Depending on what soundcard you are using (size of it's input sockets) you'll need a patch cord that is 1/4 inch on one end and 1/4 on the other (or an adapter to fit into a soundcards 1/8in socket).

You would have to have an S/PDIF output on your keyboard and an S/PDIF connection on your soundcard.

Depending on the type of S/PDIF connection you have on your two pieces of gear...either coax or optical..you would get either a coax or optical cable. If your keyboard is coax and your sound card is optical, you will need to purchase a converter.

S/PDIF connectors look like RCA jacks or are small square holes for optical. Your "too host" connection sounds like a serial connection to the computer serial port. Read your keyboard manual...
