View Full Version : OK to build an audio PC in one of these tiny Shuttle cases?

I'm going to assemble an audio-only PC. I'm looking around for cases right now, and the size of the tiny Shuttle cases is appealing. The big drawback is that you only get one expansion slot, so you're out of space after inserting the audio card. However, with the size of these cases, it could almost function as a portable studio or be thrown in a backpack for an easy setup at live shows.

Is there any other reason to stay away from a case like this except for only having one expansion slot? The power supply looks smaller than a lot of supplies that I see on system descriptions (it's only 200 W), but maybe that's all you need with one slot.

For an example of the case (although they have their own complete system listed in the specs), see

Thanks.

well, pci slots are never enough the way i do have mine set up.and i have 1 agp and 5 pci slots on a desktop ofcourse.and i wished i had more.
the way things are at the moment in time,if you want to track and need portability, you can go with laptops but they are limited as far as high bandwith transfer, and in most cases you are limited for addition and expansion generaly.if you need fx etc like for example powercore and uad1 and the likes, than you are at dead end in case of laptops and the box you are reffering to.the only way laptops will be appealing for a complete daw set up,when they provide high bandwith transfer like firewire and usb 2.0.even those are questionable at this time.very few manufacturers in the pro audio are producing but nonetheless its coming out slowly.and most these firewires and usb2.0 advertise 480mbps,but most dont even transfer 50mbps or so in general,i guess due to original design or whatever.
the point,it depends how much or how complete of a daw you want.
